About Me

Although our music director, Timothy Todd Simmons, began service with our congregation in the Fall of 2007, there are many who still have not met him. Perhaps a brief introduction will help.

Todd, as he prefers to be called, has been the Assistant Director for the San Diego Opera for the past 11 years. At the recent performance of Wagner’s “Tannhaueser” he directed a chorus of 79 singers, often in groups offstage. Ask him what it is like to run in the dark backstage to be where he needs to be.

Todd also has over 20 years experience in church music ministry. In San Diego, Todd directed choirs at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Mission Hills United Church of Christ, and La Jolla Presbyterian.

Mr. Simmons believes that choir is for those with good voices, whether or not they read music. At present he is conducting a voice class for interested choir members before the 7:15 Thursday rehearsal. If you have any interest in singing in the choir for the traditional service be sure and talk with Todd or come to a Thursday rehearsal just to try it out.

A native of Oklahoma, he graduated from Cameron University with a B.A. in Music and received a Masters degree in Music from Indiana University. Prior to coming to San Diego he was in the music department at DePauw University. He is married to Kathleen Halm, a professional singer, who has sung for us twice at second service. They are the parents of an eight year old, Eleanor, who attends our Sunday School.
