TPCC Story

Church Founding

Torrey Pines Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, was founded in 1959 by Dr. and Mrs. Edward Hashinger, when they moved from Kansas City to La Jolla. For over three years the small congregation of 35 met in a local mortuary. In 1961 the present site of ten acres was purchased. In 1962, the first of five buildings was completed and services were held in the parlor of the Administration Building. The next building to be built was the chapel in 1965 and the congregation, now over 200, moved into this lovely building, made in the form of a cross. Hashinger Hall, with a large auditorium and stage, was completed in 1966. By 1984 a bigger sanctuary was needed and a year later on Palm Sunday this building was dedicated. Now we had four buildings of Northern Italian Renaissance architecture on our attractive campus. A fifth building was added in 1997, the Berry Center consisting of nurseries and Sunday school rooms for the younger children.

The Church Today

Today, TPCC has a reputation for being a very friendly church. We hold many weddings each year for couples who are attracted to our beautiful campus and our Great Start classes. Both our music and children's programs are outstanding and draw people of all ages to our church. Everyone is welcome at Torrey Pines Christian Church!
