Whitman Elementary School
In February of 2009, TPCC chose to "adopt" a community in need. Whitman Elementary School is a K-6 school public school located in Clairemont. With a large population of special needs students, English language learners and a majority of families that qualify for the free lunch program, the needs of the school are many.
TPCC now has 20 members volunteering at the school on a weekly basis to tutor and mentor children or work in the library or school office. TPCC members have also volunteered at PTA events such as the 50th anniversary celebration, Halloween Carnival, Teacher Appreciation luncheon and campus clean-ups. Additionally, members have been very supportive of the library by donating books and volunteering at the semi-annual book fairs. This is an on-going relationship and members are encouraged to participate in some way.
