Baptism

In the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) affirmation of belief in Jesus Christ and baptism by immersion in water are the only requirements for membership.

In the worship service every Sunday, the minister invites those desiring to make a confession of faith to come forward. The minister will ask, "Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ the son of the living God, and do you accept him as Lord and Savior?" The response is given, "I do." Following that personal affirmation, a baptism by immersion in water is scheduled and conducted. The newly-baptized person then is welcomed into the membership of Torrey Pines Christian Church.

Christians who already have been baptized (by immersion, pouring, or sprinkling) in other churches or denominations are welcomed into membership by transfer of membership. As a formality, when persons come forward during worship to join by transfer of membership, the minister may ask them to reaffirm their faith that "Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, and Lord and Savior of the world." No one is asked to be re-baptized.
